Patricia Hardman's Fundraising Finds
If you are reading this then we have 2 things in common; firstly we either have Superficial Siderosis (SS) ourselves or we have a loved one with the disorder, secondly, we found The Silent Bleed (TSB) when we were desperately trying to understand what having SS means.
I can still clearly remember the look on my GP’s face (in 2016) when she told me that the routine MRI on my head had shown that I have Superficial Siderosis, she did not know what to say to me other than that I had been referred to a neurologist.
As I hope everyone knows, Jason set up TSB in 2013 so that none of us would have to face diagnosis of SS alone. The FaceBook page and the Website have been and continue to be an absolute answer to prayer for many of us as we try to understand the weird stuff happening in our bodies. Jason has been fighting to keep the Charity going and desperately needs money to pay for ongoing costs and particularly to fund his "Global Neurologist Network Initiative".
It is still a fact that many neurologists are unaware of this condition, so the team at TSB aim to find at least one neurologist within a 100-mile distance from the next. We shall, at first, email them the main details of Superficial Siderosis (SS), asking for confirmation of receiving this information and their understanding of the condition; if we do not receive this feedback, we endeavour to contact them via post. This will undoubtedly be costly and an ongoing project that could take us some time to complete.
Here are some ideas for us all to look at and think about to raise money for our charity:
Sign-up to Easy fundraising: thanks to Sharon Lee for finding out about this.
Set up a birthday fundraiser on FB: as Andrea Duangkham recently did and keep sharing it with your friends and family.
Look out for charities giving away money and share the details – make sure that you have nominated TSB with the Benefact Group.
Hold an event or get crafty (like Sharon Lee) to raise money – make sure you check with Jason/Debbie before holding an event. If you sell anything on eBay, donate a portion of the profits to TSB, you will have to do this manually as the TSB is not one of the charities that is listed.
Please set up a monthly direct debit – whatever you can afford, if we all pledged £1/month that’s nearly £700 per month!
And finally a new possible source of income:
Recycling for The Silent Bleed: You can donate all your broken and unwanted jewellery to raise money for The Silent Bleed. If you have any gold, silver, odd earrings, broken chains, costume jewellery and watches, you can recycle them at no cost to you whilst making money for The Silent Bleed.
We can recycle:•
Any jewellery – gold, silver, costume jewellery, watches, broken and damaged items (like odd earrings, snapped chains or items with missing stones).• You can donate any unwanted banknotes from ANY country of any age, so all of those obsolete pre-euro notes are a perfect start! Our partners at Recycling for Good Causes will reuse and recycle the jewellery and Banknotes, giving the proceeds to The Silent Bleed, saving precious raw materials at the same time.If you would like to send your jewellery and banknote recycling to us, simply use your own envelope or jiffy bag (No bigger than A5 in size) and post free of charge by printing out the freepost label below and attaching to your envelope.
Please do not send coins or stamps to the freepost address as the postage costs will far outweigh your donation.
Donate your Stamps: You can now donate your used stamps to raise much needed funds for The Silent Bleed. All kinds of stamps are welcome, on or off paper. Simply cut or carefully rip the postage stamp from the used envelope, being careful that you don’t damage the stamp, and once you have a collection pop them in an envelope making sure you have the correct postage to:
The Silent Bleed
PO Box 16992
Sutton ColdfieldB73 9YA (*postage needs to be applied*)
Recycling for Good Causes will arrange collections for larger quantities of stamps weighing over 10kgs. This equates to about two buckets full of stamps. For further information:
