Sharons 'fun' fundraising day
I discovered The Silent Bleed Charity when my mom was diagnosed with Superficial Siderosis in 2021. I was so pleased to find not only valuable information about the illness but to also find a wealth of people who were ready to support me.
I have been working as a volunteer in a very small way for a year or so, and this year, I decided it was a good time to try and raise some much needed funds for the charity so I organised a fun day!
I’m fortunate enough to have a holiday chalet which is located on a large field, along with a community of 50 other chalets on a site at Stourport on Severn. This gave me a great opportunity to hold an event there and hope that the weather held out to enable us to make the most of the day…. And it did!
My Niece, Alice, helped to prepare for the event which we held on a Bank Holiday Sunday. There were a wide range of activities and stalls; hot dogs and burgers, cakes, trifles, drinks, raffle, tombola, auction, gift sale, Photo Booth, children’s activities and races (egg & spoon, obstacle, sack races). We finished them all off with a game of ‘Granny Pants’! Hilarious!
I could not have held the event without the help of the community here who gave generously and helped enormously. I was completely overwhelmed with the money and gifts that were donated in order to help us to raise funds. We were given 3 sports shirts; 2 cricket shirts signed by players and 1 Lions rugby shirt. These were sold via sealed bids. We also have a local water colour artist who donated 2 paintings which I was able to auction.
Everyone had an amazing day and I’m so pleased to be able to tell you that we have been able to donate £845 to The Silent Bleed.
