Multiple Time Zones, One Heart: Inside The Silent Bleed’s First Virtual Christmas Party
Distance means so little when the connection means so much.
Last week, The Silent Bleed (TSB) made history with its first-ever Virtual Christmas Party, an event that defied geography and brought the global Superficial Siderosis (SS) community together in a celebration of resilience, hope, and holiday cheer.
Though screens separated us, the energy was palpable. We recorded 10 incredible attendees logging in from five different time zones—spanning the UK, California, Spain, New Zealand, and Australia. From morning coffee in the US to late-night cocoa in the UK, the timing didn’t matter; the togetherness did.
A Heartfelt Address from the CEO
The event kicked off with a deeply moving welcome note from our CEO, Jason Roberts. In a moment of vulnerability and strength, Jason updated the team on his current battle with SS, sharing his new reality of navigating life from a wheelchair.
However, the mood was not one of despair, but of immense gratitude. Jason took the moment to spotlight the backbone of the organization, his Executive Assistant, Debbie.
"Living with this condition means my focus has to be on my health right now," Jason shared with the group. "But the mission of TSB hasn't skipped a beat. I want to applaud the tremendous work of Debbie, who has taken up the running of TSB on my behalf. Her dedication makes it easy for me to focus on my well-being, knowing the organization is in safe hands."
Deep Connections & Shared Stories
The heart of the event was the "Connect Time." In a safe, open space, attendees shared the raw reality of how SS affected their lives in 2025, their coping mechanisms, and their beaming hopes for 2026.
Patricia, the Anchor and an attendee living with SS, described the experience as a breath of fresh air:
"SS can often feel like a lonely road," Patricia said, smiling at the grid of friendly faces. "But hearing everyone’s stories today reminded me that I am not alone in this fight. Sharing my hopes for 2026 with people who actually understand was the best Christmas gift I could ask for."
Rhys Holmes, another attendee, found strength in the collective resilience of the group:
"2025 challenged us all, but seeing the spirit in this room is infectious," Rhys shared. "We aren't just coping; we are adapting. This gathering proved that no matter the time zone, this community has each other’s backs."

A Global Sign-Off
As the event drew to a close, the warmth in the virtual room was undeniable. We ended on a high note, first we observed a one minute silence in remembrance of those we lost to SS in 2025. And then with every microphone unmuted, creating a symphony of voices wishing "Merry Christmas" in their local dialects and accents.
From the sunny coasts of Australia to the winter chill of the UK, The Silent Bleed proved that while SS is a part of our lives, it does not define our joy. Here is to a hopeful 2026! 🥂✨
